Academic ID Card Secure Encoding
The University of Virginia is implementing a new secure encoding process for physical Academic ID cards to strengthen data protection and streamline system integration across the Academic Division.
If you have a physical Academic ID card, please visit the Cavalier Card Office (open Monday - Friday: 9AM to 4PM) to have it updated with the latest secure keys. This upgrade enhances and reinforces UVA’s commitment to safeguarding personal and institutional information.
If you currently use a Hospital ID, it will continue to work at the Medical Center. However, please note that Hospital IDs will no longer function in Academic Division systems after January 1. To ensure uninterrupted access, you will need to obtain an Academic ID (physical or mobile) before January 1.
What to Expect:
- Visit the Cavalier Card Office during regular business hours
- Bring your current Academic ID card
- The encoding process takes only a few minutes
To make this process more convenient, the Cavalier Card Office will also be setting up remote encoding stations across Grounds. Locations are being updated frequently. Please check back for more dates.
PLEASE NOTE: These remote encoding stations cannot print a new ID. For new Academic IDs please come to the Cavalier Card Office.
